Georgian Dublin

This is a tour of the beautiful face of Dublin awash with 18th-century streets, squares, and landmarks.

1. We start our walk at Baggot Street by the Grand Canal which links Dublin with the Shannon river. It was built in the 18th Century for industrial purposes, but is now a tranquil water way and home to many ducks and swans.

2. Over to lower Baggot Street where we find many fine Georgian doorways and homes

3. Then on to Fitzwilliam Square was built in the 1820s. It was the last and smallest of the great Georgian squares to be developed and is a superb example of Georgian urban design.

4. We pay a visit to 29 Lower Fitzwilliam Street which will allow us to view what the interior of one of these houses would have looked like in Georgian Dublin.

5. We then head to Merrion Square which is probably the best preserved area of Geogian Dublin. Three sides of the square are lined with Georgian redbrick townhouses. The central railed-off garden is now a public park.

6. The fourth side of Merrion Square provides access to the grounds of Leinster House (Dáil Éireann - Irish Parliament). There is also pleanty of time for the neighbouring Natural History Museum and The National Gallery of Ireland.

7. We complete our tour with a visit to the historic St Stephen's Green, a 22 acre park which was enclosed in 1664.
